Position Overview

Prince Albert Hockey (PAH) is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Referee-in-Chief (RIC) to support, guide, and develop our officiating program. Reporting to the PAH Board of Directors, the RIC plays a key leadership role in managing on-ice officiating, mentoring officials at all levels, and fostering a positive and supportive environment within our hockey community.

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the development of local officials and the overall success of our association.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the day-to-day needs of officials across all divisions.
  • Assign (or oversee the assignment of) officials for games based on skill and confidence level.
  • Provide mentorship, coaching, and development opportunities for officials.
  • Organize and lead local officiating clinics in coordination with Hockey Saskatchewan.
  • Recruit and retain new officials, including current players, coaches, or community members.
  • Foster collaboration with senior officials to help with supervisions, evaluations, and scheduling.
  • Build relationships with neighboring Referee-in-Chiefs to share ideas and support.
  • Represent PAH at required meetings throughout the season.
  • Maintain open communication with Hockey Sask representatives regarding official development.
  • Act as a positive role model and leader within the PAH community.

Ideal Qualities & Competencies

  • Passion for hockey and commitment to creating a positive on-ice experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead and work collaboratively with coaches, players, officials, and board members.
  • Previous officiating experience is an asset, but not required.
  • Familiarity with officiating rules, Hockey Saskatchewan/Hockey Canada guidelines, and Minor Hockey Association policies is an asset.
  • Reliable access to a phone and email for timely communications.
  • Organizational skills for scheduling and reporting.
